July 23
Dan and I laugh and poke fun at the yuppes (whoever they are) talk about
summer, about remaining forever a teenager or maintaining anyway that
wild lust for life and do-anything live-in love and leap attitude. We
talk about zaf and writing and I regularly define words like "prolific"
for my age-old friend who (for what he may lack in vocabulary and street
smarts) makes up for 100-fold in openness and enthusiasm to learn. For
better or worse, it would seem I am his greatest teacher. I hope I have
not filled his head with impossible dreams, but rather given him chances
he might not otherwise (and the guts to take the chances) have ever encountered.
At 38, Dan is still socially (at least in terms of dating and romance)
just this side of puberty. Still living with his mother he has led a sheltered
life. He and his mother are good buddies and I believe theirs is a healthy
relationship. Besides her, I think I'm all he's got!. So I got him drunk
now and again, and once I took him on a killer four day hike deep into
the Sierra Nevada. We have shared many adventures, and now he shares with
me his land in Maine and I have contributed my talents to make the place
more livable. When I define prolific for him, it is to describe how very,
very much I'm writing lately! (as this meek transcriber's carpel tunnel
can attest to) I am surpassed and xxxx at how much is family from me now,
and I feel healthy and fit, more productive than I've felt in years. Now
I go to be Hercules to lift a forest cabin and set it right.
I can't wait! and what a compliment the young couple Greg and Niccola
paid me when they accepted my bid, as is, no dickering, and said they
saw the project as my christening from me 4 sculpture (?). They must have
visited jigglebox! God bless 'em! -- RSM
